Too good just to make for Bon Fire Night. This cake is best left for 1 – 2 weeks before you eat it as it becomes stickier the longer you can manage to keep it.

Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 170C/gas 3. Grease 36cm x 25cm tin
Step 2
Melt butter, treacle, sugar and milk in a pan until sugar is dissolved.
Step 3
Sieve flour and baking powder. Add the salt, ginger powder and oatmeal. Add crystallised ginger now if required.
Step 4
Mix in liquid thoroughly. Pour into tin and bake in a preheated oven until the centre is firm to touch, about one-hour.
Step 5
Remove from oven cool in the tin for 30 minutes then cut into pieces and leave to cool completely on a rack.
